Este documento es un breve ensayo teológico que escribí durante mis estudios avanzados, con el propósito de ofrecer una herramienta educativa que ayude a interpretar las Escrituras de manera más responsable y pertinente para la iglesia de hoy. En él explico, en un tono pastoral y reflexivo, cómo mis propias experiencias —incluidos prejuicios iniciales hacia la historia, la literatura y la teología— fueron transformadas al descubrir el valor que tienen estos campos para la vida cristiana y la predicación bíblica.
Presento cinco aspectos que considero esenciales para una buena comprensión bíblica: las referencias históricas de la Biblia y su relación con la historia humana, las diferencias culturales entre el mundo antiguo y nuestra realidad contemporánea, los cambios geográficos y lingüísticos, los géneros literarios presentes en el texto bíblico y, finalmente, el contexto teológico que nos ayuda a conocer quién es Dios y cómo vivir de forma congruente con esa verdad. Como maestro y predicador, insisto en que no basta con citar la Biblia, sino que debemos estudiar su trasfondo histórico, literario y teológico para evitar interpretaciones simplistas o erróneas y así servir mejor a quienes enseñamos y pastoreamos.
El ensayo también busca corregir ciertas actitudes negativas dentro de la iglesia, como el miedo al estudio teológico o la idea de que la historia y la literatura son irrelevantes para la fe, mostrando que, por el contrario, son aliadas indispensables para una exégesis sana y una aplicación actualizada del mensaje bíblico. Finalmente, integro aportaciones de otros autores y de mi propio recorrido académico y ministerial, con la intención de animar a estudiantes, predicadores y líderes a profundizar en el estudio de la Biblia y a desarrollar una hermenéutica que honre tanto la inspiración divina del texto como las realidades históricas y humanas en las que fue dado.
